The Catoctin Mountain area near Thurmont, Maryland is quickly becoming my favorite place to escape and enjoy the outdoors. There is so much to do here, like picking apples (or berries) at Catoctin Mountain Orchard, heading to Cunningham Falls for a hike and picnic and experiencing stunning views & award winning wines at Catoctin Breeze Vineyard.
This place is beautiful you guys. I cannot believe this was my first time visiting Catoctin Breeze. It had been raining for days straight a few weeks ago. I had a Monday off and decided to head to the Vineyard with my dear friend, Amy, to check out the tasting room which had recently opened. (I had been following the construction every step of the way on social!)
It was pretty overcast when I arrived but it did not matter, this place was amazing. I was greeted outside of the Tasting Room by Vinny the Vineyard dog (a German Shorthaired Pointer) who posed for the camera and was so happy for another guest to play with.
Amy and I entered the Tasting Room through large, impressive arched wood doors into a marvelous space. To our left was a massive stone fireplace which makes me want to come back during the winter time to cozy up to a roaring fire with a glass of red! The mantle was decorated with award winning wines and their metals. I could tell this wine was going to be top notch!
The Tasting Room had a ton of windows which allowed for natural light to come in and feel homey. The ceiling had wooden beams and rafters which made us feel like we had entered a fancy lodge.
We walked up the bar and started our tasting. Amy is a sweet wine lover and went with the Sweet Wine Tasting Option. I am a red lover and decided on the Premium Tasting.
Our favorites included:
2015 Estate Chardonnay
2014 Concerto Bordeaux Blend
Estate Cabernet France
Estate Oratorio Barbera
2013 Overture Merlot
2010 Amber Mead (a sweet wine that is great to pair with sweet tea!)
These wines were wonderful! If you want to join their wine club you can do so- here.
With a full glass of wine and cheese in hand we headed outside to the picnic area to take in the views. Just as we exited, the skies seemed to open up and the sun beamed through the clouds casting beautiful golden light on the vines and surrounding mountains! A photographer’s heaven! There are many outside areas to relax at; the sitting area under a covered pergola, underneath the barn porch, out in the open picnic area or on the stone patio just outside the tasting room. Vinny hung out for a bit and bonded with us by playing fetch. I just love him!
We had such a wonderful time at Catoctin Breeze and cannot wait to visit again for some girl time. Catoctin Breeze is pet/kid friendly and has small bites for purchase. They also have food trucks on the weekends if you are wanting something a little more filling!
