Strolling the streets of Paris at night is magic. They do not call it the city of lights for nothing! The Parisans, like most Europeans, eat dinner pretty late compared to the US. This meant that my Mother and I were completely exhausted by the end of the day if we wanted to have a nice dinner, we needed to stay up! I am not going to lie, a few nights we just couldn’t do it and skipped dinner. But the nights we ventured more than a few blocks from our hotel (review here) we found ourselves heavily rewarded with breathtaking views of Paris and the Eiffel Tower at Night.
We visited Notre Dame at night many times and there was just something about it being lit up that allowed you to see the details so much clearer than during the daytime. It is absolutely beautiful and eerie all at those same time.
The water on the Seine River seemed to glow with the reflections from the lit up buildings along it which made us walk home even slower to take in the views.
It goes without saying that my favorite thing in Paris lit up at night was the Eiffel Tower. One night, after return from Champagne, we decided to switch metro lines and head to the Eiffel Tower. We found a spot that was close to the metro line we would take back home and found a free bench near the carousel to wait for the show.
The tower is beautiful enough just glowing and lit up but man when it starts to twinkle it is memorizing!
The Eiffel Tower light show happens every night at sunset until 1am (or 2am during the summer months) and begins within the first 5 minutes at the top of the hour and lasts for 5 minutes. It is totally worth it! I promise. Make a night of it and grab a blanket, wine and some snacks and head to the park in front of the tower and wait for the show to begin!
