When I told my friends I never had had Indian Food, they just couldn’t believe it. I am not sure what I was scared of; it seems everyone who has tried Indian cuisine absolutely loves it. Not sure what I was waiting for!
A few weeks back my friend, Lori of Blank Slate, convinced me to give Indian food a try. She loved Delhi6 Frederick which has a great lunch buffet. The buffet was filled with a variety of popular Indian dishes allowing me to be able to try little bits of everything and see what I liked. Turns out I really LOVE Indian food! The flavors were amazing. My favorites from the buffet included ALL of the sauces, naan, butter chicken, spinach chat, the rice and beans (yes the rice is amazing) and chickpea chips (better than tortilla chips!) to name a few. I liked the food so much I had to return for dinner later that week.
Delhi6 Frederick is located in the Evergreen Shopping Center at 5732 Buckeystown Pike Suite 2 Frederick, MD (right near Common Market) and also has an Express location in Walkersville at 8415 Woodsboro Pike, Walkersville, MD 21793 which offers carryout and delivery. FYI the Frederick location also has lots of extra room for parties and events if you are looking for rental space!
The Hubs and I arrived to Delhi 6 Frederick right before a huge storm hit. So needless to say we waited out the storm eating and drinking our way through tons of delicious Indian Cuisine. The owners of Delhi6, Suman and his wife Diya, explained many of the dishes to us and helped Wade (who was also new to Indian food) and I figure out exactly what we would love. Everything they recommended we loved and we cannot wait for our next visit to try even more! Check out what was on our menu below:
Currytini– Delhi6 Frederick had a long list of delicious cocktails to choose from. But my eye went directly to the ‘Currytini’. Made with Absolute Vodka, curry leaves, ginger, chili peppers and lime juice- this thing is unique and delicious.
Taj Mahal Beer– The Hubs is a big beer drinker. So he had to try Indian Beer! The Taj Mahal beer is a pale lager and is light and crisp but also pretty flavorful.
Samosa– I actually had heard of these before! So I had to try. Samosa’s are crispy turnovers stuffed with potatoes and green peas- served with a side of mint chutney and tamarind chutney.
Sesame Gobi– Guys- this was my favorite thing of the night. Crispy Cauliflower with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. It was so good and tasted like chicken. I could not believe it was cauliflower. I highly recommend this dish!
Chicken Vindaloo– Chicken cubes in a hot and tangy sauce. Just the right amount of spice! Very flavorful. Both our chicken entrees came with bowls of basmati rice which were delicious- I didn’t know any type of rice could be so good!
Chili Mango Chicken– Chicken cubes in a mango sauce with coconut milk. I love this stuff. Really reminds me of Thai curry chicken! (which is one of my fav dishes!)
Kabob Platter– Chicken tikka, fisk tikka, prawns, lam seekh kabob + veggies served on a sizzling skillet.
Naan– oh the Naan! I love this stuff and could eat it with every meal. We tried the Olive Naan (which is naan bread topped with olives, red peppers and olive oil), Garlic Naan (Roasted garlic and sesame seeds) and a impromptu Spicy Naan made with hot chilis- Just ask for the spicy naan!
Raita– This stuff goes perfectly with the Naan! Raita is a yogurt, cucumber sauce (sort of like the Greek Tzatziki sauce) but has some mild spices and carrots.
Gulab Jamun– Get ready for a treat. These things are flavored milk balls, slightly fried in a bath of boiling simple syrup.
Saffron Rice – Rice pudding, saffron and nuts. Delicious!
Kulfi– Indian Ice-cream. Can make any flavor. The flavor of the day was Mango and made with (you guessed it) MANGOS!
Soooo if you have not tried Indian Food yet- you are really missing out (I sure was); or if you already love the cuisine, you need to head into Delhi6 Frederick ASAP! I am so happy to have found this place.
