The Classic Mint Julep

Classic Mint Julep

Ingredients
  1. (simple syrup)
  2. 1 cup sugar
  3. 1 1/2 cup water
  4. 8 mint sprigs
  5. (cocktail)
  6. -2 tablespoons of the simple syrup
  7. -2 ounces of your favorite bourbon
  8. -4 mint leaves + extra for garnish
  9. -1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  10. -crushed ice
  11. -water to taste
  12. -repeat
Instructions
  1. (for the simple syrup)
  2. -bring the sugar and water to a boil
  3. -stir and and reduce
  4. -keep stirring for a few minutes until all sugar has dissolved
  5. -place covered in fridge until chilled/ready to use
  6. -remove mint leaves
  7. (for the cocktail)
  8. -place mint leaves (save some for garnish), simple syrup and powdered sugar at the bottom of one julep cup
  9. -gently crush/press leaves with end of spoon
  10. -fill 3/4 full with crushed ice
  11. -pour bourbon over ice
  12. -top off with water if desired
  13. -garnish with mint
