A few weekends ago Wade and I headed south to Luray Caverns (recap here) with a pit stop in Sperryville, VA. Sperryville is a small but jam packed full of things to do with an old town charm. Our first stop was Pen Druid Brewery– a fairly new brewery opened up by the three Carney brothers. The brewery is named after the old family farm a few miles away, the mascot (a swan) is their family insignia. Pretty neat right? (you can read a little more about them here)
Pen Druid makes some pretty good brews, we ended up ordering a sampler of: Wheels of Confusion (pale ale), Time (IPA), Space (saison/farmhouse ale), Mystic Lamb (sour), Light of Love(sour) and Paranoia (dark sour). I was super excited to finally try some sour beers. We loved Time so much we bought a growler and got it filled. The growlers have an awesome tall genie bottle like shape that are short enough to fit in your fridge. I actually learned later that is a common shape for sour beer growlers.
Any who- Pen Druid Brewery is a must stop if you find yourself in Sperryville, VA. Grab a glass and some grub from a nearby food truck and enjoy the sunshine on the patio.
Thanks Pen Druid for an awesome time! Check out a few photos of our visit below.
