Brunching at Hootch & Banter

Hootch & Banter recently began offering brunch and their menu is absolutely mouthwatering folks.   I first fell in love with Hootch & Banter in Downtown Frederick, MD last November with their delicious dinner menu; (recap here) and their brunch offerings equally knocked me off my feet.  I was able to test the entire Brunch entree section of their menu and I am here to walk you through it every step of the way….Brunch Brunch-7The Hubs and I started our historical brunch experience as every brunch should, with a mimosa and a bloody Mary…but not just your everyday mimosa and bloody Mary, because it’s Hootch & Banter! H&B offers a freshly squeezed OJ mimosa but also a raspberry puree mimosa.  I am admittedly normally not a bloody Mary kind of gal, but when Wade’s BM came to the table it looked so delicious I had to give it a sip (or two.. or five).  I am now a BM believer.  The bloody Mary came adorned with celery, pickle and olive; but the balsamic filled cherry tomato was the icing on the cake.Brunch-3(Raspberry Mimosa)

To start our morning feast with a bang, we ordered  the Nantucket Style Mussels bathed in a rich lobster cream and served with toasted baguette. They are definitely not skimpy on the mussels; which comes to your table in a Dutch oven.  Don’t forget to dunk your toasted baguette in the cream sauce! For my first entree, I ordered the filet tips brunch skillet- scrambled eggs , tenderloin of beef, local aged cheddar, peppers, crispy potatoes with a demi glaze served in a piping hot cast iron skillet. The Hubs ordered the Smoked Salmon Frittata which we both agreed was our favorite item on the menu.  Made with Gruyere cheese, capers, asparagus, lemon dill creme fraiche and served with a side of crispy breakfast potatoes makes this frittata jam packed full of flavor.  For this course, we sipped fresh squeezed mimosas and freshly brewed coffee from Baltimore Coffee.Photo Mar 20, 12 39 04 PM(Smoked Salmon Frittata + Mimosa)

Next up was the deliciously sweet Brioche French Toast Bread Pudding with a side of the thickest bacon I have ever eaten and fresh berries.  There is something so comforting about french toast and Hootch & Banter’s version has me wanting to recreate their recipe at home! (Tell me how you do it? Tell me your secrets!)Photo Mar 20, 12 59 59 PM-2(Brioche French Toast Bread Pudding)Photo Mar 20, 12 57 59 PMPhoto Mar 20, 12 59 07 PM Wade went with the Wagyu Burger and a Brew for this second entree.  I have to admit- I had to google Wagyu, a sought after type of beef cattle with meat that “you melt on your tongue rather than chew”, and man was that burger good!  Packed with cheddar, thick cut bacon and a sunny side egg with a side of house breakfast potatoes; it will make you rethink burgers for breakfast and wishing you had larger hands to hold it all.

Creamed Chipped Beef is always hit or miss for me.  Hootch & Banter hit it out of the park.  Their Creamed Chipped Beef is made with thick cut buttered toast which somehow maintains a delicious crunch and does not get soggy when its piled high with chipped beef deliciousness.  A side of fresh fruit and breakfast potatoes (with amazing house made ketchup) is also served. Photo Mar 20, 1 19 00 PMOur last entree was the Chesapeake Crab Gruyere Quiche-french pastry, lump crab with a balsamic infused green salad.  I love a good quiche- but add crab?! This Maryland gal is in heaven.  This quiche is pretty decadent which is why I loved that it came with a side salad to add some balance. (and so we could focus on trying to eat the entire quiche!) And there you have it- the holy mecca of brunching.  We left H&B with a a ton of leftovers, food babies and concurrence that Hootch & Banter is a top favorite brunch spot without a doubt.  If you do not have plans this Sunday- do yourself a favor and do brunch at Hootch & Banter.  Huge huge thanks to Hootch & Banter for such a wonderful meal and the extra LBs! 😉
