Kitchen Design & Appliances

Your kitchen is the heart of your home. Whether you are building your kitchen from scratch with a new construction, renovating or simply upgrading your appliances there are so many  things you can do to make your appliances a cohesive part of your kitchen design.  Although it is not my dream kitchen, I loved how our kitchen turned out and am excited to share with you all some shots of the kitchen along with some ideas and tips on how to design your kitchen space around your appliances.

When we were picking out our kitchen with our builder, we did not have a lot of choices- but decided to go with super dark cabinets. We negotiated to purchase our own appliances and it was a great call.  We were able to shop around for different finishes that would look best with our cabinetry, counter tops and kitchen layout.  For instance we knew black appliances (even the awesome new black matte stainless steel) would only make our kitchen look uninviting and gloomy versus the open and airy feel we were going for. We went with stainless steel Whirlpool products. (and a Samsung over the range microwave) Matte finished silver handles were added to our cabinets along with a Santa Cecilia Granite for our counter tops (which include whites, browns and dark grey tones) to help pull everything together.imageimage (1)Shopping for appliances can be a bit overwhelming; there are so many options, makes and models.  P.C. Richard & Son is a great place to start your search. Not only do they have a HUGE selection, offer free shipping and a price match guarantee; they also are authorized to service all of the appliances they sell. No hassle of dealing directly with the manufacturer!

  • Stainless steel works perfectly with black cabinets. Pair it with a crisp white backsplash to complete the look.

If you go with super dark (almost black) cabinets like we did, as stated above, I would suggest stainless steel appliances or custom panel appliances.  Black cabinets are more of a modern look which pairs great with neutral grays and whites. I love this 4 door Samsung Stainless Steel Fridge which boasts plenty of room. Black kitchens are also a place where white matte appliances would pair lovely.  The hubs and I have this Whirlpool Dishwasher and love it.  I am in love with this  freestanding double oven Maytag gas range-pair it with this ventilation hood and a neutral back splash!

  • Dark hardware works perfectly against white counter tops and helps better blend in the black buttons/knobs of your appliances. Rot iron handles/knobs looks amazing with white cabinets!

My dream kitchen consists of crisp white cabinets with matching glass panel doors, rot iron hardware, beams and a farmhouse sink.  A bronze hood like this one would look amazing over this dual fuel range.  A built in white custom panel refrigerator will make your kitchen look like a million bucks and allow you to add statement pieces (such as floating shelves) and color without making your kitchen look too busy.  White will even allow you to be adventurous and try out the new black matte/gray steel appliances. Here is the gray version of our dishwasher. LOVE! A Neutral or even a whitewashed/patina brick back splash adds warmth and character to the kitchen.

  • Finding appliances that will fit flush with your cabinetry helps create a seamless look.

Wood stained finishes are making a comeback in kitchens.  Stainless Steel appliances would be the usual go to finish in this style kitchen but gray/black matte appliances are also options to help keep the kitchen feeling natural.  Adding wood stained customized paneling and a unique ventilation hood can add a modern twist to an otherwise classic kitchen.

**Huge thanks to P.C. Richard and Son for sponsoring this post. As always all opinions are my own.
