Boozy Homemade Hot Chocolate

It’s the Monday after Snowpocalypse 2016…Schools are closed and many folks are still digging their way out of their driveways.  After all that shoveling.. I think you will deserve a treat.  How about the epitome of winter beverages, hot chocolate! Better yet- hard hot chocolate! The recipe below is beyond easy to make and allows you to store the mixture for later use. All you have to do is warm up with milk and stir in your favorite whiskey.

  1. 3 tablespoons unsweetened coco powder
  2. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  3. 3 1/2 cups of milk (I use 1%)
  4. 2 servings of your favorite whiskey (whatever amount you think a serving should be!)
  5. Marshmallows
  6. 1/8 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips, melted with a bit of coconut oil
  7. White chocolate chips for topping
  1. In a small sauce pan, heat milk over medium heat
  2. In a small bowl, mix the coco powder and sugar until well combined (sifting is better!)
  3. Just before milk begins to simmer (never let it boil!) add the mixture and reduce to low heat
  4. Stir stir stir! (no really- you do not want it to burn to the bottom)
  5. Once well combined, pour into your favorite mugs
  6. Top with roasted marshmallows
  7. Melt chocolate chips with a bit of coconut oil in microwave for 30 seconds
  8. Take out, stir and repeat until melted and smooth
  9. Drizzle the chocolate over the marshmallows
  10. Top with white chocolate chips
  1. *** make extra mixture to store for another cold day
  2. **** leave out the whiskey to make it kid friendly!
