Palladio Restaurant

After leaving The Market at Grelen in Somerset, VA, my parents and I headed to a four course lunch at Palladio Restaurant which is located on the Barboursville Vineyards .  It has been many years since my Mom and Dad had visited Palladio and I so excited to experience it again with her and my Dad.  

We made reservations in advance (recommended) and were immediately brought out fresh bread + olives; as well as complementary champagne which was perfect to toast with for my Mother’s Birthday. 

As I mentioned before this was a four course menu filled with mouthwatering options. It was so hard to choose!
For the first course, Mom ordered the Insalata Estiva: Salad of Watermelon, Baby Arugula, Feta Cheese,Toasted Pistachio Nuts & Cabernet Franc Verjus. Which was so refreshing! I cannot wait to try my own watermelon salad recipe.
I ordered the Insalata Caprese: Salad of Local Tomatoes, Burrata Cheese, Chili Flake Salt, Basil & Barboursville Balsamic Reduction. This was the best Caprese salad I have ever had folks! 

My Dad ordered the Trio di Mare: Tuna, Swordfish & Sardines Cured in Extra Virgin Olive Oil,
Lemon & Herbs served with Salsa Verde, Peperoncino Relish & Lemon Aioli

For the second course Dad ordered the: Zuppa di Mais e Zucchine Sweet Corn Soup with Grilled Zucchini, Squash Blossoms, Corn Shoots & Black Pepper Crème Fraîche. Of course I asked for a bite and it was very good + beautiful with the squash blossoms on top!
Mom and I ordered the Ravioli alla Polpa di Granchio e Ricotta Crab & Ricotta Ravioli

Preserved Lemon & Chive Purée. That Chive Purée was something else… I loved it.

All three of us ordered the Bistecca di Manzo alla Griglia Certified Black Angus Top Sirloin Steak with Sautéed Zucchini & Cherry Tomatoes, Crispy Smoked Corn Polenta & Roasted Tomato Purée. HOLY YUM!
Now for the best part! Dessert! I am not much of a dessert gal; normally opting for something savor versus sweet. However the Tartufo alla Mandorla con Cioccolato e Caramello:

Almond Ice Cream Coated in Chocolate with a Dark Chocolate Ganache Center drizzled with Caramel Sauce was TO DIE FOR and my favorite part of the meal. We all licked out plates clean.


Palladio was probably the most fancy restaurant I have ever been to and was defiently an experience to dine there. I loved every minute of it and cannot wait to come back! Now that we were full to the gills it was time to walk it off and explore the Barboursville Vineyards.  Thank you Palladio for the great food and service and for making my Mother’s birthday so memorable!
