The Wedding Chronicles: Engagement Party

 In September, Wade and I had an engagement party to celebrate our upcoming nuptials at the end of May. Since we were hosting, we did not do anything wild and crazy. We invited all of our friends and family and had a wonderful time. Seriously it was one of the best times of my life! There is something about being surrounded by all the people you love in your life at the same time that is somewhat magical. {corny I know}

Our bridal party and close family members helped us out so so much by bringing side dishes and drinks; while Wade and I took care of the PIG! Yes we decided to try our hands at smoking our own pig for the event. Cooking 100+ burgers on our tiny grill {we were able to get a nice new big one from gifts given to us from the engagement party!} would be stressful! Of course cooking the pig took about 12 hours but we made a whole day of it and it was great.

One of our amazing Groomsmen, Matt walked us through the entire process. His family hosts an annual pig roast at their house every year around Labor Day and it is always a great time.  Wade and Matt picked up the pig the morning before the party from an Amish farmer in PA and cooked it all day long, in Matt’s Dad’s smoker he had brought over to our house. The boys were in heaven: sitting by a fire all day while the smell of pork filled the air and drinking a few brews.

I meanwhile was running around cleaning and organizing and it was nice to have an extra set of hands to help set up. Thank you so much Matt! Also thank you so much to my awesome parents for helping us as well. We could not have done it without them!

In the evening time another groomsman- John came over to get in on the fun. The pig ended up not being done until late in the night- which then the boys had a frenzy pulling apart all the meat.

I made a few decorations in the leading months for the party. My inspiration was a styled Emerald green and metallic gold shoot I found on a blog. Since the party was outside and the emerald green was all around us (the grass) I decided to go with it! I spray painted mason jars from my parents’ house metallic gold and added some gold glitter. {how to post here} I also glued some white feathers to some twine and dipped them in gold glitter. The emerald green utensils went inside the Gold mason jars and looked awesome! I added a few other touches as well.
One of my Bridesmaids and best friends, Lisa was amazing and made Wade and I a tree thumbprint guestbook for the party. Everyone was to sign the guestbook by put dipping their thumb in green ink and placing on the tree. It turned out amazing and it now is hung up in our living room. I will cherish it always! Thanks Lisa!
