Anniversary Getaway to Ocean City MD

Friday, June 14, 2013
 On June 1st Wade and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary.  We headed to Ocean City, MD to celebrate! We decided to wake up super early on Saturday and hit the road.  Our plans were to first hit our regular crabbing spot right before the bridge into OCMD.  We bought the bait and headed to our secret spot.  When we arrived we were sad to find “NO TRESPASSING” signs everywhere.  We decided to drive around to try to find another spot, but to no avail we couldn’t find one.  We knew we could always drive to a public pier, but did not feel like being around crowds.  Feeling defeated we decided to go try to check into our hotel.  When we tried to turn onto the street of our hotel and it was completely blocked off due to the Raven’s Parade.  We had no idea what to do.  We parked in a shopping center parking lot and went to talk to an officer.  He said when there was a break in the parade he would let us drive through.  Finally we made it to our hotel and checked in.  A beer was popped almost instantaneously.
After unloading everything we headed to the beach! We set up shop and relaxed for a few hours.  We were surprised how bare the beach was.  It was nice having free range of spots to choose from on the beach.
Soon we were a little crispy and ready to hit Hammerheads on the boardwalk! Hammerheads is one of our favorite places for happy hour. We ordered Boom Boom Shrimp (knock off Bang Bang Shrimp from Bonefish) and steamed mussels to munch on while we sipped our 24 oz Natty lights!  After a few huge Natty’s we decided to get some tropical drinks. I got a pineapple orange cream-sicle thing and Wade got an OC tea. Let me tell you we had a blast at Hammerheads.

After Hammerheads we checked out this new Brewery on the boardwalk right next door, Shorebilly’s Brewery.  We fell in love with the place! We got free stickers and skateboard key chain bottle openers.  We decided to try the 4 beer sampler so we could have a taste of all of their lovely beers. {which they brought out on a skateboard}We loved the Downtown Sugar Brown beer the best.  It was sooo good.  We loved the place so much we decided to buy their comfy T-shirts as our souvenir.
While walking home we decided to poke our heads into Pepper’s Tavern for a drink.  The place was pretty neat!
We stumbled back to the room and relaxed/got ready for our anniversary dinner at Harpoon Hanna’s!  Harpoon Hanna’s is one of my favorite places to eat! My family and I would go every year on our beach trip.  1) because the food is delicious 2) you can’t beat the view 3) it was a block from the family beach house! We took the long bus ride from 19th street to 145th street which was entertain {and exhausting} in itself.
{Love this place!}
Since we were starving we decided to eat inside since we would be seated immediately.  We ordered the crab dip as an appetizer.  There is a lady with a basket of various breads and muffins that walks around constantly.  The coconut muffins and pumpernickel bread is amazing!
{Crab Dip}
For our meals I ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi and Wade the Blackened Tuna.  Our entrees came with salads which was awesome.
{Caesar Salad}
{Blackened Mahi Mahi}
We were stuffed and got doggie bags for our leftover to munch on later in the night. After dinner we headed outside to the ‘tiki’ bar and dock to take a look at the beautiful sunset.

{A little dark- Outside Harpoon Hanna’s along the bay}
On the walk back to the Coastal Highway Bus stop, we walked passed the house my grandparents would rent every summer and have our family stay with them.  Some of my best memories were the summer weeks at the beach with my Grandparents. The house looked just the same {even an American Flag flew from the front porch} We then walked passed the old lighthouse. I remembered when I was little staring at the glowing lighthouse at night until I would fall asleep.
We had big plans to go out to fishtails that night but ended up falling asleep at 10pm….
The next morning we woke up early and headed to Dunkin Donuts.  We had our breakfast on the wall of the boardwalk like always.  We walked along the beach for a bit to work off the breakfast.
Since this was one of the few times we were in OC the whole day on a Sunday, we wanted to try the bloody mary bar/ Suicide Sundays at Starboard’s in Dewey.  We took the long {but very nice} drive to Dewey and completely did not know about the parking situation.  YOU CANNOT PARK ANYWHERE without a Dewey permit.  We were pretty mad.  We drove around for 30 mins trying to find some form of public parking but couldn’t, epic fail! We will stick to Ocean City!
On the way back we needed a drink after all that frustration and decided to have an early lunch at Seacrets.  The place was empty! We ordered a few of their famous drinks {one that is our favorite now, the BIG BAMBOO- rum, pineapple juice OJ and some other goodness} For lunch I ordered my usual- the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sandwich. We had a wonderful view of the Bay yet again.
After lunch we decided to hit the beach for a bit. After beach time we walked along the boardwalk and looked at all the knic knacks in the stores.  We of course stopped at Hammerheads again for a few beers.
For dinner we headed to Blu Crabhouse.  We went there when they opened last August with friends and had a blast.  The crabs and sides were delicious so we decided to go back again this year.  We ate all you can eat crabs, corn, bay biscuts and mac and cheese bites for $26 bucks each.  We ordered a bunch of beers and sat there for hours overlooking the bay.
After dinner we hung out in the room for a bit before walking the 2 blocks over to Fish Tales! We ordered our fav; grapefruit crushes and sat in the swings in the sand for an hour or two before calling it a night and heading back to the hotel.
The next morning we headed to the Fractured Prune for coffee and donuts.  Even though we have one in Frederick we had never been.  We each ordered a donut {they were pretty small but amazing}a coffee and a breakfast sandwich and sat on the boardwalk wall again along the beach and enjoyed.  We said goodbye to the beach since it was about to pour and headed home.
